2 Common Causes of Acne…MILK and SUGAR
Mark Hyman

March 24

IT’S CONFIRMED. DAIRY PRODUCTS AND SUGAR CAUSE ACNE.

As our sugar and dairy consumption has increased over the last 100 years so has the number of people with acne. We now have over 17 million acne sufferers, costing our health care system $1 billion a year. Eighty to ninety percent of teenagers suffer acne to varying degrees. The pimply millions rely on infomercial products hawked by celebrities or over-the-counter lotions, cleansers, and topical remedies. Recent research suggests that it’s not what we slather on our skin that matters most but what we put in our mouth.

Many have suggested a diet-acne link, but until recently it has not been proven in large clinical studies. Instead dermatologists prescribe long-term antibiotics and Accutane, both of which may cause long-term harmful effects. In 2009, a systematic review of 21 observational studies and six clinical trials found clear links. Two large controlled trials found that cow’s milk increased both the number of people who got acne and its severity. Other large randomized prospective controlled trials (the gold standard of medical research) found that people who had higher sugar intake and a high glycemic load diet (more bread, rice, cereal, pasta, sugar, and flour products of all kinds) had significantly more acne. The good news is that chocolate (dark chocolate that is) didn’t seem to cause acne…

A tip for the tip of your…nose!

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

Before I ever started using the Wonderbar, I could be found in Sephora once a month digging for something…anything, to help reduce the size of my pores. I had a little rosacea happening which only made my pores look more pronounced. Using expensive products like Murad and Obagi made my skin look healthier for sure, but NOTHING helped with the redness and PORES. Then the Wonderbar came along. It was immediate. Redness and pores were drastically reduced. If you happened to be in the Houston area at the time, I think you might have heard me screaming from the rooftops about this amazing Wonderbar. I was selling it out of my car because it was all I could talk about. People just rolled their eyes when they saw me coming. :)

Flash forward two years and here we are. I still use the Wonderbar every day, and I wanted to share my latest Wonderbar trick. My skin is balanced, so the need for powder is minimal. I only dust some on my nose if my sun block is making it shiny. I ran out of powder last week, though, so I decided to just wet the bar and dab that on my nose instead. To my surprise and amusement, it ended up having the exact same effect as the powder- a little coverage, a matte finish AND it made my drastically reduced pores look even smaller than before. I just leave it on all day without needing to reapply. How easy is that? Try it and share your results…and if you have any other Wonderbar tips, share those too! We love hearing from you!!

Ten simple, and not so simple, ways to keep your skin gorgeous in 2011!

Sunday, January 2nd, 2011

1) No wonder here!  The Wonderbar gently cleanses, exfoliates and detoxifies.  It keeps your skin clean and balanced and promotes cell rejuvenation.  It’s a great alternative to harsh topicals and five-step routines!

2) I’ll drink to that!  Hydrate by drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water per day. This will help to keep your skin moist, refreshed and supple, which will help the skin fight off developing wrinkles and blemishes.  Vita- Coco is our favorite way here at WonderbarUSA to get there, boasting the five key electrolytes found in blood, there’s not a more effective or delicious way to stay hydrated!

3) Count your sheep!  Sleep allows the body to restore itself and in turn re-energizes the organs, the largest of which is your skin. By maintaining a regular sleep pattern, you will feel more energized and your skin will retain a healthy, fresh look.

4) Work it out!  Exercise increases the flow of blood and oxygen to the skin cells. When you sweat, your body expels toxins through the skin with ease from the opened pores. Sweating effectively cleans the pores from dirt, dead skin cells and excess sebum.  Plus, you’ll get that healthy glow that looks so young and vibrant!

5) Lock it in!  Moisturize in conjunction with the Wonderbar, and that should do the trick. Most moisturizers are mainly oil and water-based and work to keep our skin’s natural oils from escaping the skin. No matter how much lotion you slather on, it won’t put moisture back into your skin. With the Wonderbar, a plain one is all you need, so skip all of the fancy extra ingredients.  The most basic moisturizer will help you retain the moisture you need to stay looking young.

6) Rock that block!  Protect yourself from the sun’s harmful rays. Sunshine and tanning beds are the main reasons for premature aging of the skin. By applying a physical sun block and keeping your face well protected from UV rays, you can help to prevent premature aging.  With the Wonderbar, make sure the active ingredients are Zinc Oxide and/or Titanium Dioxide, as they won’t penetrate your pores like chemical sunscreen will and you’ll get better coverage.

7) Move to the “No Smoking” section permanently! Smoking causes premature aging and yellowing of the skin. The tobacco that is released into the air dries out your skin, while the smoke you inhale constricts the flow of blood to blood vessels, therefore preventing your skin of essential nutrients that your body supplies.  You can do everything else on this list, but if you continue to smoke, your skin will reflect it.

8)  Go the “whole” way!  Whole foods that is… your outside appearance reflects what’s on your inside. Maintain a healthy and balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole grains.  See my post here on how to eat your way to gorgeous skin!

9) Go Fish Oils! Essential Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids are known to play a critical role in promoting healthy skin.  They help to regulate cellular function and maintain elasticity and suppleness in the skin.   Take the supplements daily and see an improvement in your skin, nails and hair!

And last, but not least…

10) Kill ‘em with kindness!  Goodness, generosity and kindness all breed contentment. I have a friend whose skin literally shines, along with her eyes and smile.  She would give you the shirt off her back, she oozes love and goodwill and it shows in her face. Contentment shines through your eyes and skin and helps you stay young!

I’m obsessed!  You have to go buy some Inner-Eco at Whole Foods as soon as you have the chance!  It’s not expensive and it has endless health benefits.  It’s a huge boost to our immune system, which many say have been damaged by all of the antibiotics we have been prescribed.  It gives you energy and makes you feel great and balanced…it even controls the sugar cravings!  With regard to the skin, it can be considered an extra weapon in your anti-acne arsenal.  Team it with the Wonderbar, and you can’t lose!

I really can’t say enough about this stuff…try it for yourself, give it to your kids and pets, and you won’t be sorry!  Read more about it here!

Sephora’s nine “Best Sellers” in skincare all add up in their abilities to….well….ONE little Wondrous-bar!

beauty-products-730472

The nine “top-selling” skincare products on the Sephora website claim to each do one or more of the following things:

fade pigmentation, shrink pores, improve clarity, treat acne, control oil and blemishes, improve appearance of age-related skin issues, reduce stretch marks, restore elasticity, firm and tone skin, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, moisturize, conquer skin damage……

They might do some of these things, but NONE of them do it all at the same time.  Which means of course that you aren’t getting out the door without two, three or even four products!  That is actually fine for some, people do like products.  The problem comes in when they spend a lot of time and money and ultimately don’t get the results they are expecting.  At least this is what I’m hearing from our clients.

Also, on the Sephora website, they have a list of ten areas of concern for the face, which can each be clicked on to show multiple product solutions for each area of concern.  They are as follows:

Enlarged blackheads and pores, breakouts and acne, dryness, oiliness, fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and uneven texture, loss of elasticity, redness/ rosacea and sun protection!

Hmmmm, that’s all sounding a little familiar…almost exactly like the Wonderbar, which addresses NINE out of ten of them!  The tenth is sun protection and we just don’t do that- but a simple, effective sun block is easy to find.  SO, you can choose from HUNDREDS of products which may or may not address one or two concerns each, OR you can just buy a Wonderbar and an all-natural moisturizer or sun block and call it a day.

For now, let’s keep it between us that the Wonderbar is also a shampoo and scalp equalizer on top of everything else, we do NOT want to sound like we’re bragging! ;-)

Sun Protection

From your head all the way down…to your TOE!

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

The thing is, I am a runner.  I don’t go crazy with it, but I do run around 9 miles per week.  I began to develop this this issue with my large toe.  It was red, swollen and painful and it got worse over the course of about one month.  TO the point that my shoe was hurting me and it was too uncomfortable to run.  I almost wanted to blame it on my ill-fitting wedges that I wore meandering around NYC, but I’ll never know for sure.

SO….because I am aware that people use the Wonderbar for many different types of issues, I decided to try it out on my toe.  I rubbed a little on the side of my toe TWICE.  It completely went away in two days and even when I pushed on the spot where it was so painful, I can’t feel it anymore.  It really seemed to reduce the inflammation and heal my skin.  I don’t know what it was, but it doesn’t matter because it’s GONE.

If you have any skin conditions that you want to get rid of , try it.  Take a picture first and then use the Wonderbar.  If it works and you provide us with before and after pictures, we will send a Wonderbar to you- on us!  We are always hearing new stories about this little miracle-worker…and we can use those stories to help others!

Please, somebody, get that man a Wonderbar!

Did you really think he was just blushing? C’mon, you know someone with rosacea.  We ALL do.  1 in 20 people have it…statistically speaking.  Rosacea is a relatively common disease and is one of the most common dermatological conditions.  It’s estimated that in the United States it affects approximately 14 million Americans! OK, so you know several people who have it and it might even by YOU.  I certainly know one…..ME!  But lately, you’d never know it.

Your dermatologist might tell you that you should continue on with the expensive steroid creams, medications and laser treatments, because there is no known cure for Rosacea.  This is true, there is no known cure.  Still, even after all the expensive treatments, many people still say that they continue to have flare-ups.  Surprisingly, the Wonderbar has been helping people manage their Rosacea as well, if not better, than some of their Dermatologist’s recommendations…..and only at a fraction of the cost!  We think that is pretty exciting.

If you are scared to try something new because your skin is too “sensitive” or if you have already decided that nothing is going to help, you might reconsider.  We have many happy customers who had those doubts too, but don’t anymore.  The Wonderbar has really been wowing people with its abilities.

Try one today- shipping on us!

balance

Life, marriage, diet, curriculum, funds, budget, skin, checkbook…and skin, of, course.  What do these things have in common?  They all need to be balanced.  The Wonderbar is up to the task.  Its pH-balanced binder helps balance your skin.  So while the clay detoxifies and the micro-algae heals and promotes cell turnover, the balance is also being restored.  The synergistic effects of the three main components add up to healthy skin!

When skin is described as “normal”, it means that it is ”balanced”.  What does normal mean, though? Well, when we’re talking about skin, it means that you don’t have a problem with oil or breakouts, and you don’t feel that your skin is dry and tight. Most people with normal skin have small pores, little to no breakouts, an even tone and can get by with little to no foundation.

To keep your skin normal or balanced, you need to use a product with the right pH-balance level.  “Soap” will dry your skin out.  Other products can leave you feeling greasy.  People who use the Wonderbar and have gotten past the “dry phase” that is typical in the first 2-3 weeks largely claim…..yes, small pores, little to no breakouts, an even tone and not much of a need for foundation or powder.  And there you have it.  Now about that checkbook……

3 Easy Steps To Healthy Skin

3 Easy Steps To Healthy Skin.

Wonderbar Holiday Glow

When you’re going to a holiday party now more than the rest of the year we want that ‘glowing’ complexion. Founder of ArizonaSpaGirls.com, Lisa Kasanicky, did some research into how we can do it! November, which was National Healthy Skin Month, made for a great educational opportunity for the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) to share the latest findings on everything from hair loss and adult acne to non-invasive solutions for unwanted love handles.

But what we really wanted to know was how to get on that healthy, glowing, perky skin!

Suzanne Connolly, MD and Associate Professor Dermatology at the Mayo Clinic says that lifestyle choices are at the heart of healthy skin. “An outdoor lifestyle without proper ultraviolet ray protection results in more photodamage and that is the basis for photoaging,” she says.

Dr. Connolly also stressed the importance of using a daily sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection (and not just on sunny days.) “Use of sunscreen routinely, even on a cloudy or cool day is important. It needs to be re-applied; one application in the morning will not have a day-long benefit,” she notes.  “Healthy diet, avoiding tobacco use, less emotional stress, and rest are also important.”

The third part of this equation? Understanding the unique needs of your skin type and sticking to a careful and consistent skin care routine.

Acne-Prone Skin

Zits or pimples or whatever you want to call them, acne is no fun for anyone. Be sure to look for: Oil-free products with salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide and non-comedogenic ingredients (does not block pores) Also avoid heavy creams and oily products.

Unevenly Pigmented Skin

While the official term is hyperpigmentation, most of people refer to them as brown splotches or wayward freckles. Look for pigment-lightening products with retinol, niacinamide, hydroquinone, or alpha-hydroxy acids. Also, be sure to avoid sun exposure!

Sensitive Skin

For easily irritated skin, Dr. Connolly suggests introducing new products to sensitive skin with caution. Use a little of the product at a time on small areas at first. Look for “fragrance-free” products with a simple list of ingredients (the longer the list of ingredients, potentially the more apt a product might be to irritate someone with sensitive skin).

Suggested product:  Wonderbar, $40. Available at right here at wonderbarusa.com.

Goodbye Keratosis Pilaris! (a.k.a. the little annoying bumps on the backs of our arms)

The dreaded Karatosis Pilaris!

The dreaded Karatosis Pilaris!

“Keratosis pilaris is very common, finding a home on the upper arms, thighs, and shoulders. Keratosis pilaris tends to be more severe during the winter months but no one is sure why that is the case and it definitely isn’t consistent for everyone. Basically, the bumpy rough spots are clogged pores that sometimes get red and irritated but rarely itch. Regrettably there is no available cure or universally effective treatment, though it is generally well accepted that unclogging pores and reducing inflammation can improve matters greatly (Source: eMedicine Journal, July 2, 2001, Volume 2, Number 7).”

I had a dermatologist tell me the same thing.  But strangely, since I have been using the Wonderbar, mine is gone.  I don’t ever rinse my hands off after applying it to my face and neck.  I put the leftovers all over the backs of my arms and, as I’m sure you’ve heard me say, my heels.  The little bumps on the backs of my arms have been gone since day 3 of using this product.  Pretty cool, huh?
