The Allure “Beauty Reporter” gives the Wonderbar a test drive…as a shaving cream

Monday, August 16th, 2010

That’s right, as a shaving cream, and we at Wonderbar couldn’t agree more with their verdict. While some people might have used the bar to shave with, and while it wouldn’t do any harm, we agree wholeheartedly that the Wonderbar just isn’t going to do much in this particular category- even though it’s not soap. You see, the bar does not yield a whole lot of lather, and when you are talking about using it on your face, that’s actually a great thing.  The foaming agent in our bar is really mild, and anything stronger would be too harsh for your skin.  So, if you are looking for some foam (which you would need to shave your legs), you might look a little further “down the aisle”…the shaving cream aisle that is.  Not to mention, as any Wonderbar fanatic will tell you, the light, creamy suds are precious and not to be wasted or thought of as “soap”.  Due to the cost, it must be used wisely and consistently, but never casually!  We take your skin seriously.

Now as an AFTERshave, that’s a different story.  The Wonderbar is known for its cleansing, balancing and detoxifying powers, so if you are still in need of something to combat razor burn and ingrown hairs, we got you covered.  This, at least, is what we are hearing from the male clientele (very loudly I might add, they are obsessed!).  The thing one must remember, though, is that in order for this product to produce results, no matter where you use it, it must be left to penetrate the skin for at least 3-5 minutes and this must be done outside of the shower…where it can dry.

So, in summary, Allure nailed it when they concluded that it did not test well as a shaving foam. It is pH-balanced (5.65) and made with high-quality ingredients, so please use it as a treatment, anyplace you feel you need a little healing, balancing and gentle detoxification.  This is where the real value in the Wonderbar lies.  We hope that any past and future clients will heed Allure’s message…it is an accurate one indeed!

Grin and Bar it! A few updates from WonderbarUSA…

This post is sort of all over the map on topics, but lots of action lately, so lots to discuss! Some good questions, some good answers…people are really curious and that’s a great thing! I guess when there is endless debate over what makes a product work so well, it’s good news. I had the opportunity to travel back to New York last week and sit down with several beauty editors to discuss the Wonderbar. And once again, all seemed intrigued and anxious to give it a test-run. It was so much fun to see where everything goes down…makes me want to watch “The Devil Wears Prada” one more time. The first time I tried, I fell asleep before the opening scene. The best question to come out of my desk-side tour came from Vogue and InStyle magazines regarding bacterial growth on the bar. This is a legitimate concern for many and I’m happy to report that the answer is no, bacteria cannot grow on the bar. There are two reasons for this: 1) Moor is anti-bacterial and 2) The pH is acidic, therefore, bacteria die. Very good to know… The second question I want to address today is one that appeared in the form of a debate regarding the claim that states the bar “is effective in flushing out all of these toxins that may have been trapped under the skin for many years.” Some people were misunderstanding this to mean that toxins will remain under the skin for, literally, years, which is not possible. The answer straight from the manufacturer: “Toxins are under the skin cumulatively over long periods of time. Please do not take it literally as years.” So, to further clarify, they do not mean that the toxins stay under the skin for years, but rather, that some of us continually or consistently use toxic products and so there is a steady presence of toxins in our skin. I can definitely see how this would be misunderstood and I misunderstood it myself in the beginning. Hope that helps to clear it up… Lastly, I want to share a good rule of thumb regarding Wonderbar usage. Stick to products with a sole purpose. In other words, moisturizer meant to lock in moisture, powder and foundation (if you simply must) meant to cover and sun block meant to protect. Nothing added- SPFs, AHAs, Acids, Retinols, etc. Once you have adjusted to the bar, you may introduce actives or serums one at a time, so if you have some reaction, you can identify what is causing it. Many people say, “WHAT? I have to give up all my actives and my mineral powders?? I can’t do that!” Well, you don’t have to forever, but if you end up wanting to, now that’s a different story. We only ask that you give the actives and serums a rest while you are adjusting to the Wonderbar. You’ll get to know the bar and how it works best for you personally. Ironically, you might just find that you don’t need to wear makeup once you have adjusted. But the actives and serums? Yes, of course, reintroduce them at your discretion. One thing I learned while in New York is that a new summer trend is the bare look! That’s right; NO base…just a bare face. Well, maybe a little shadow, liner and glossy lips, but that’s it! Simple is in and I think the Wonderbar fits the bill perfectly. Look for celebrities to start going outside fresh-faced! You can join them by letting the Wonderbar address your skin issues so you don’t have to cover them up anymore! :) Hooray for summer!

These are a few of my favorite things…

SPAWEEK.com asked their favorite bloggers to describe the three ”little luxuries” that have sweetened their lives…..we were excited to see the Wonderbar on the top of someone’s list!

“The world wide web agrees. Whether it’s a hot stone massage during SPA WEEK®, the happiness found in a tube of lip gloss, a mug of hot chocolate on a cold Winter’s day, or cuddling on the couch with someone you love… life really is all about the little things. Here, we introduce to you the people behind the links we love, and the 1, 2, 3 little luxuries that make their lives a little bit sweeter.”

Here is what CRYSTAL from BEAUTY OR BUST had to say:

twinkle, twinkle little bar, how I wonder what you are…

We wanted to address some of the questions that have been posted on a few skincare forums regarding the Wonderbar.  We’ve compiled comprehensive information on the product based on input from the creator, the manufacturer, customers, and our own 15+ month experience using Wonderbar. If you have additional questions or concerns, or if you have had issues with Wonderbar despite using the product correctly and consistently for the recommended six weeks, please contact us at info@wonderbarusa.com.

Many users will experience the normal symptoms of the healing phase (dryness, irritation, white bumps, breakouts, brown patches) before achieving the clear, balanced, healthy skin Wonderbar promises. If customers stop using the treatment before the healing phase is complete—or use incompatible products with the regimen—they will not experience the benefits of Wonderbar. It is imperative that users follow the recommended course to accurately judge its efficacy and see the dramatic results Wonderbar delivers.

Like an exercise regimen, Wonderbar requires commitment—if you give up after two weeks or “cheat,” it won’t work. Wonderbar isn’t a quick-fix solution or a one-time-use treatment—it’s as much a part of your ongoing health care regimen as a quality shampoo or a daily multi-vitamin.

The questions:

What is in the Wonderbar and what does each component do?

a) Patented Base: provides a mildly acidic, pH-balanced cleansing environment

b) Moor: provides gentle, natural detoxification

c) Exclusive Microalgae Extract: heals, nourishes, protects and moisturizes while promoting cell turnover

d) Olive and Chamomile Oils: protect and hydrate

What causes breakouts during the healing phase?

a) The Heilmoor clay in the Wonderbar detoxifies your skin and draws out toxins, which can cause breakouts as toxins are brought to the surface.

What are the toxins that the Wonderbar claims to purge?

a) Wonderbar draws out many of the toxins that skincare and cosmetics deposit, which can accumulate over long periods of time. The greater the buildup of chemicals under the surface of your skin, the more severe the healing phase. Thus, children or adults with “virgin” skin will experience a minimal healing phase.

Why does skin become dry and irritated during the healing crisis?

a) Dryness is a sign of skin’s healing process and occurs before skin reaches optimal balance. We recommend that you continue to use the bar during this time and complete the regimen. The dryness subsides with continued use and your skin eventually begins to produce its own moisture, restoring natural balance. A good basic moisturizer can help keep skin hydrated during the dry phase and is safe to use in conjunction with the Wonderbar.

Can the healing crisis cause rough brown marks to appear on your skin?

a) Yes, but these are brown patches of dry skin that eventually come off with continued use.

Does Wonderbar claim to get rid of Melasma?

a) No, we claim that the bar fades hyper-pigmentation. Customers have shared that Wonderbar heals Melasma, but it is not among our claims.

What drives the cell turnover when using the Wonderbar?

a) The Chlorey’nahre.

What is Chlorey’nahre exactly?

a) Chlorey’nahre (CLO) is the name for an exclusive combination of algae extracts combined with hMA, which is extracted specifically to formulate Wonderbar. Chlorey’nahre is the healing component of the product and is renowned for its ability to penetrate and heal the skin.

What happens to your skin if you leave the Wonderbar on too long?

a) Wonderbar acts as a powerful exfoliant, toner and cleanser in one. 3-5 minutes twice daily is all you need to heal and rebalance skin.  Due to the potency of the product, we recommend that you avoid actives such as retinols or other types of “acid” products—the combination is too harsh and irritating.

Have clinical trials been done with the Wonderbar?

a) No, our customer results speak for themselves.

What is Tiffany Masterson’s background?

a) As a partner in Wonderbar Distributors, I have received feedback from hundreds of customers and am extremely familiar with the proper usage and benefits of the bar. However, I am not a scientist or dermatologist; customers should also seek the advice of a dermatologist when necessary.

Is the Wonderbar the same bar as Eumora?

a) No, the Wonderbar is a more advanced and more effective formulation made by the same manufacturer.

WHICH MOISTURIZER AND SUNSCREEN SHOULD I USE?

a) A good rule of thumb in choosing a moisturizer (or sunblock) is to stick with one that has a sole purpose: in the case of a moisturizer, to provide a barrier that locks in moisture, and in the case of a sunblock, to protect.  Plain and simple.  Try to avoid moisturizers with added perfumes and chemicals, SPFs, retinoids, AHAs, Salicylic Acids, etc.  For sun protection, choose a physical sunblock with the active ingredients Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide.  This will sit on top of your skin and provide a shield from the sun, as opposed to penetrating your pores.

and, last but not least, this question usually comes to us in the form of a scream through the phone…

WHY IS IT SO SMALL?!?!?

a) Precious things sometimes come in small packages.  The size is not at all indicative of the life of the bar.  It lasts a lot longer than it appears it would and it is not soap, so if thought of as soap, the size might disappoint you.  When people use the bar and see how long it lasts, they are delighted and amazed.

We hope this will answer some of the questions about our rising star, the Wonderbar.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if your question wasn’t answered.  Curiosity is a great thing and when it comes to the Wonderbar, it is clearly peaking off the charts!

“get ready to throw your antibiotics away, because wonderbar—a seemingly basic facial care bar—is nothing short of miraculous. obscure ingredients, like heilmoor (apparently a 3,ooo-year-old austrian clay), break up congestion in the skin, detoxify and tighten pores, and—for our julib beauty guinea pigs—cleared up breakouts and persistent rosacea. available at www.wonderbarusa.com”

Hey Wonderbar! Don’t let the Talc hit you in the bootie on it’s way out!

Monday, April 12th, 2010

baby

YIPPEE!  A response many of you will be pleased with!!   The manufacturer of the Wonderbar has removed the talc from our list of ingredients.  The talc is gone.  No more talc.  A.D.I.O.S., TALC!  The reason for this?  Not because they were seriously concerned with the high-grade talc they were using (most of the hype over talc is, in fact, regarding powders that can be inhaled or applied to various body (booty :) ) parts), but because YOU did not want it in there…and they happily obliged.  I can understand why you didn’t want it in there, and now we can all breathe easier.  No pun intended there, but it worked out that way, didn’t it?

SO, beginning in a couple of months, the bars will be sent out talc-free.  And while we are on the topic of ingredients….in a RELATED story:

Paraffin.  Lots of questions on this as well.  This is their response….”with regard to Paraffin, only a small percentage  of the base is pre-mixed with our very high-grade paraffin (not the kerosene type), plus, our patented base neutralizes it anyway.”

SO, looks like we are nearing “almost perfect-product” status.  Now if we can just get people to quit trying to eat it, we’ll be in great shape.

Product Swap? Not a bad idea for either party if you’re swapping Wonderbar for Alterna…

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

alterna

This is the first “product swap” that I’ve agreed to, and boy, am I glad I did!  I live in Houston, Texas, where the norm is hot and humid.  If it’s drizzly outside and you have someplace to go, you can forget feeling cute.  You can, however, count on your hair to do whatever it is you don’t want it to do…full becomes stringy, straight becomes frizzy, bouncy goes flat.  Charming.  Anyway, after living here your whole life you just sort of accept that unless you have a standing appointment at a salon (not the norm for anyone I know), then it’s just another bad hair day.

Two weeks ago, I got an email from the PR rep for Alterna Hair Care in Beverly Hills, who had just gotten back from an editor day in New York (just like the one I had in January- really fun).  She went on to say that her favorite question to ask the beauty editors is, “What is your favorite new product?”  She posed the question to one of the editors from a well-known weekly, and the answer she got (very thankfully) was “the Wonderbar”.    The editor went on and on and raved so much that Lauren from Alterna wanted to try it immediately!  She sent the email suggesting a product swap and I have to admit, I was hesitant at first.  Caviar Anti-Aging Shampoo?  Whatever….shampoo is shampoo.  I’m not that into products, really.  I don’t really like spending money on creams and serums and lotions and potions…OR, shampoos, conditioners, hair spritzers and sprays.  I DON”T!  I’d much rather spend money on some great new workout pants.

Well, thankfully I accepted the product swap and thankfully I was wrong again (I know, that’s happening a lot lately, but it’s OK, I’m learning a lot lately too! ;) )  My mistake?  Shampoo is NOT just shampoo, or at least not THIS shampoo.  On a side note, I remember a time in North Carolina when my husband and I went trolling for pizza places.  We went in and sat down and the first thing I said to the waiter was, “Is the pizza good here?”.  His response was, “I don’t know, pizza is pizza”.  I got up and walked out.  The people at Alterna get it.  They take this hair thing seriously, because my hair seriously looks good today.  TODAY!  It is miserable outside!  Sprinkly, wet, hot, humid, muddy.  We got up early to go to my little boy’s T-ball game…we get to the parking lot and I’m finding myself wanting to hop out of the car.  I think I was feeling kinda cute.  You should see my hair!!??!!  It’s totally smooth, shiny, bouncy…..like it’s not humid outside.  Like, I’m in Los Angeles or something.  I love this stuff and I recommend that you go on the website and find a location near you and go buy some.  I don’t think you will be sorry.  Here’s what she sent: Caviar Anti-Aging Moisture Shampoo, Caviar Anti-Aging Moisture Conditioner, Caviar Anti-Aging Rapid Repair Spray and Ultra Fine Brushable Hair Spray.  I already called a meeting this morning with my four monsters to issue a warning.  ”Look closely and just know that the four bottles I am holding in my hands are not to be touched, held, opened, looked at, sprayed, hidden, eaten, or used as weapons under ANY circumstances and if they are, I’m coming after ALL of you, without any regard to who actually did it.”  I don’t think they were listening, but we’ll see….

Click on the picture above and it will take you to the website.  Just so you know, Alterna did not ask me to do this and if you think I’m doing it just so they’ll send me more, you might just be right.  It’s my new favorite thing and it looks very nice next to Wonderbar-ed skin :) !

“Healing CRISIS” or “Healing PHASE”?? WonderbarUSA wants to know what YOU think!

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

brad_beard

If you have an opinion on the term “healing crisis”, I would love to hear it.  There are two clear sides to this debate….some people say YES, absolutely refer to it as a crisis, because it has the potential to feel like one and you need to let people know ahead of time exactly what they could be in for!  The other team says that we should NOT call it a “healing crisis”, as this simply scares people off and is not necessarily accurate.  What do you think??

Are you “Team Healing Crisis” or “Team Healing Phase“?   Let us know, we value your opinion.  Actually, just for entertainment purposes and in an attempt to keep the ever-annoying “love-triangle that won’t die and keeps dogging Jen Aniston no matter what she does” syndrome going, also share with us whether or not  you are “Team Aniston” or “Team Jolie”.  Personally, I have quit both teams and have created a new team called, “Team Lose the Beard Beads, Brad Pitt!”  They are so upsetting and last time I checked, they are not helping anyone.  Unless, of course, they are helping Angelina Jolie, who could have specifically requested them to keep other women away.  Yes, yes, come to think of it, this is probably EXACTLY what happened and who can blame her?  If Jen Aniston would have thought of it, there would BE no triangle and I could have ended my post a long time ago with, “are you ”Team Healing Crisis” or “Team Healing Phase”?  Which I will now…

Need to address this Mineral Powder and Wonderbar thing….

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

mineral powder

I am getting a ton of flack about recommending against the use of mineral powder in conjunction with the Wonderbar, and that perhaps I should not be doing so without backing it up with scientific data.  Also, I have received complaints from a few clients who insist that I consider that it might not be ALL mineral powders; only some.  I have to tell you, I’m no scientist, but I have seen this combination not work out so well, and even if it has only been a handful of times and doesn’t apply to every situation, I still feel obligated to disclose it. Trust me, using the two products together can be…..NO FUN.  I am talking about the breakouts that can occur.  Maybe it is not ALL mineral powders that cause this reaction when used with the bar, maybe only a few that have certain ingredients….or maybe mineral powders do clog your pores, maybe, just maybe, the wonderbar tries to pull the toxins out while the powder filling in your pores traps them in, resulting in cystic acne and infections just beneath the surface of your skin.  And maybe some people are more sensitive than others….or maybe the bismuth oxychloride is causing it.  WhatEVER it is, I’m going to warn you that it’s something you should watch for so you don’t think it’s some crazy allergic reaction.  If I see something that concerns me, you’re hearing about it whether I have data to back it up or not.  And if I’m wrong about something, I’ll correct myself……there is likely a lesson in there that we can all benefit from anyway.

SOOO, instead of saying “will cause”, I’m going to change the wording on our instructional handout to: “Please be aware that SOME types of “mineral” powders, when used in conjunction with the Wonderbar, CAN cause severe breakouts, which will impede the healing process.”  (incidentally, the Wonderbar/mineral powder combo almost landed my famously dramatic sister-in-law in a wheelchair from the weight of the cyst that formed on her cheek, but that’s a story I’ll let her tell you….perhaps I’ll create a guest blogger spot?!?)  OK.  I hope everyone feels better now.  Please make a note of the correction and let’s move forward…

Now, if you feel like you want to ignore everything I just said and decide for yourself, then keep reading…..here is a special report by Paula Begoun and Bryan Barron, two well-known experts in the skincare and cosmetics field.  Keeping in mind exactly how the Wonderbar works and potential ways the two could work against each other, please consider what will be best for you.  If you have been experiencing breakouts outside of the normal “adjustment period” range, read the report carefully and check to see if your makeup contains any of the ingredients mentioned.  Also, if you’re still feeling protective of your mineral powder, you can take it up with Paula and Bryan!  Be careful, though…they hang with the Mighty Opes. (When she’s not hanging with me, of course ;) )

Headed to Colorado in our Toyota, not sure how safe I feel!

ode going to colorado

Well, well, well….here we are again.  I can’t believe it’s already Spring Break and time to pile the kids and dog and husband and extra Wonderbars in the car and head to Colorado.  I have to have extras because they sell wherever I go- you know I started selling them out of my car?  LITERALLY.  I’ll have to tell you that story another day though….

Anyway, I was feeling pretty excited until my Mom reminded me that we are driving in a “runaway” Toyota.  I guess we need to find out what to do if the gas pedal sticks.  If anyone has advice on that, please let me know before 5:00 tomorrow morning.  My husband, whom I’ll be referring to as “Julie, the cruise director” for the next  eight days, says not to worry, “everything is going to be alright…..until it’s not”.  Ok, that makes me feel SOOOO much better.  Thanks for that, Julie.  He earned the nickname ”Julie” last year when my sister and I noticed his anxiety level rising every time we didn’t have 52 activities planned for the day.  He goes crazy!  That is why I am only bringing my pajamas…..it will simply drive him nuts.    Okay, I probably need to tweak my attitude- we haven’t even gotten in the car yet.  This is also the first year we have had a dog.  He is coming with us, of course.  Julie is in love with him!  Do you have this whole hilarious picture in your head yet?

In a related story, things at WonderbarUSA are going great and seem to get more exciting by the day.  SO many exciting things brewing, but I can’t tell you about any of them!  They have to happen first.  That is really hard for me, I mean, I was telling people that I was pregnant when I had been that way for like a minute.   Actually, I can tell you one thing.  Someone’s getting a new website!  It is really beautiful and packed with even MORE info than before…..updated press, testimonials and a new FAQ page.  Don’t get me wrong, I LIKE answering 2000 emails a day that are all asking the same question!  ;)   No, really, I think the new FAQ page should answer some of your questions and make it easier for all of us.

That’s it, folks!  If you are traveling for Spring Break, be safe and don’t forget your Wonderbars……if you do, I guess I can overnight one to you….wherever you are.  But remember, Julie gets cranky if I spend too much time at the post office during our vacation!
