Sleeping with the Wonderbar? Only if it feels right….

sleeping

I feel like I should revisit this topic.  I get many phone calls and emails every day from people who are applying the Wonderbar as a mask and sleeping in it.  Many people rave about the results, while others wonder why they get too dry.  Is it normal?  How can I tell?  Yes, it is normal to get dry in the first 3-4 weeks.  Your skin is adjusting.  Anything and everything can be normal in the beginning, but after the first few weeks, if the dryness is still a problem, look to the products you are using and the amount of time you are leaving the Wonderbar on your skin.  Tweak your routine until you find what works best for you.

I slept in it from the beginning and have never experienced any dryness since week 4, but people have different skin, habits, genes, environments, diets, etc.  Make-up and powders and creams and potions can sometimes clog your pores, thus contributing to  breakouts…your skin will react to the Wonderbar based on exactly what YOUR skin can handle.

Final answer: only use the Wonderbar for 3-5 minutes twice daily until your skin is balanced.  After that, experiment.  You might find that you can sleep with the suds on your face every night, or not.  You may find that you want to only use it once per day.  There is no hard, fast rule.  You can have a long, beautiful and evolving relationship with the Wonderbar, as long as you don’t let a little dryness discourage you.  Just make the appropriate adjustments and enjoy the results!

Not even the Wonderbar can help Tiger now!

Poor Tiger, but he made his own bed didn’t he?  Too bad he decided to share it with the wrong lady.  I realize this has little to do with the Wonderbar, but being the mother of four young ones, I worry more and more about the values of our supposed “role models” and how they are changing over time.  Isn’t  Tiger every boy’s (and husband’s) idol?  Doesn’t this come with a huge responsibility? Can he not keep it in check for his own children and family, not to mention every kid who strives to emulate him?  I guess not.  I think it’s so sad.

But back to the Wonderbar……can’t really figure out how to fit it in to this post.  But you know I’ll try.  The Wonderbar is simple, understated, effective, trustworthy, unassuming, straightforward, sturdy, multi-tasking, refined and dependable.  Ok, so that’s the Wonderbar.  Now I can’t figure out how to fit Tiger back in……

On our quest for healthy, radiant skin, Wonderbar is key, but there’s more….

The Wonderbar has changed my skin for the better and I really don’t feel I need one other thing in addition to the bar, a great moisturizer and sunscreen.  I am 41,  though, so I want to do everything possible to keep my skin looking youthful.  I notice a huge difference when I don’t drink enough water, for example, or get enough sleep and exercise.   I also notice a change for the worse when I eat junk food……so, I recently did a little research on great foods for skin health and I am listing them here for you:

Tomatoes
“Tomatoes contain lycopene; a powerful antioxidant that repairs damaged skin cells and premature aging cause by your hanging out in the sun for way too long.  Of course, this isn’t to insinuate that you can worship the sun and eat tomatoes and be fine; you need to start avoiding the sun and eating tomatoes more often.  The natural chemicals in tomatoes increase when cooked.”

food 3

Seafood
“The goodness of fish has been touted for years and the news just keeps getting better and better. Selenium, which is known to fight off damage caused by sunburn, is found in yummy seafood such as halibut and oysters.  If that weren’t great enough, fattier fish (and don’t worry, it’s the good kind of fat) like salmon and tuna, contain Omega-3 fats , which are known to reduce inflammation and soften skin.”

Olive Oil
“Packed with monounsaturated fat, olive oil, eaten raw, helps your skin to not only remain touchably soft; it also helps your skin maintain its natural oils.  The best of all the olive oils on the market is extra virgin olive oil, because it is rich in antioxidants and oleic acid. Olive oil also contains squalene, which is believed to help repair and rejuvenate skin’s texture.”

Avocados
“Not only is this fruit loaded with monounsaturated fats, it also contains plenty of fiber, vitamins B6, C, and E, potassium, magnesium and folate.”

Berries
“All berries contain a high amount of vitamin C, a necessity for collagen production (collagen keeps your muscles and skin tight and reduces the chances of developing fine lines).  Another fantastic trait of berries, besides the fact that they taste so awesome, is their ability to reduce inflammation.”

food 1

Almonds
“One ounce of almonds provides you with half of your daily recommended vitamin E to fight off free radicals (as bad as they sound, free radicals destroy your body’s naturally produced elastin, which causes wrinkles).  Almond skins also contain an antioxidant known as flavonoids, which protect cells from damage – namely skin cells.”

food 2

Carrots
“Carrots are chock full of beta-carotene, the most active form of carotenoids; a plant substance that forms vitamin A. The vitamin A, in turn, helps prevent the skin and eyes from getting dry.  And because of their high mineral content, carrots also lend themselves to healthier skin, hair and nails. But beware – consuming too many carrots will, indeed, turn your skin orange.”

Ground flaxseed
“Flaxseed will not have any skin healing properties unless they are ground, so you need to make sure that if you decide to purchase them, that they are already ground.  Ground flaxseed is full of omega-3 fatty acids, which are known to support skin health and increase energy.”

Of course, there are many more……..sunflower seeds, low-fat dairy, green tea, citrus fruit, kiwi, sweet potatoes and whole grains are just a few.  People who know me, know I wouldn’t touch an avocado or seafood for anything.  However, tomorrow I am going to make a smoothie with an avocado and try to disguise the flavor with some whey protein powder!  I’ll let you know how that works out for me and post the recipe, incorporating many of the foods listed above,  for you tomorrow. :-|

Adios Razor Burn, Sayonara Ingrown Hairs!

 Did you know about shaving with the Wonderbar?  I had no idea and never even thought to give one to my husband.  Not long after we started this company, some women who had purchased the bar for themselves, began telling me that their husbands were using it!  I guess it looks masculine enough and it’s a little hard to resist just sitting there by the sink, so they tried it.  It doesn’t look like a “skincare” product, so they can improve the texture of their skin and still feel all ”manly” while doing it……(Yep, I’m talkin’ about you, honey!)

The Healing never stops!

At around the tenth month of using the Wonderbar,  I noticed something interesting.  About once a month, I was getting a dry, invisible layer of skin on my face and neck.  At first I didn’t know what was going on, but then figured out that just because the initial “big” dryness passes after 2-3 weeks, doesn’t mean the bar stops doing what it came to do.  It keeps working.  Realizing that it was the Chlorey’nahre promoting the cells to turn over at a faster rate than normal, I took a baby washcloth and gently buffed the dead layer of skin right off.  There was no irritation or redness, my skin had clearly adjusted to the product, so I knew there would be no harm in giving things a little push.  My skin looked great and healthy (and it was SO soft!).

Gently remove dry skin after applying the Wonderbar....

Gently remove dry skin after applying the Wonderbar....

The great news is that while the bar is an exfoliate and will aid in rinsing dead skin cells away with every use, it is very gentle and occasionally one might notice a gentle buffing just helps things along.  Please note that in the first 2-3 weeks of use, we highly recommend against any scrubbing, exfoliating or buffing.  Your skin most likely has not adjusted to the Wonderbar yet and still needs time.

Everyone’s skin is different, but the one thing that seems to be consistent is that people love it as long as they use it as directed.

The Wonderbar is giving Soap some serious PH Envy…….

High PH levels dry skin out!

We have all been told for many, many years how bad soap is for our skin.  It’s been pounded into our heads by every beauty editor out there……and guess what?  They are right!  When it comes to skincare, soap is a very dirty word.

Sooooo, I thought I’d take a minute to tell you about the PH level in the Wonderbar.  It is around 5.65!  Just in case you are not up on PH levels, that’s exactly where our skin needs to be.  While it looks just like a soap and lathers just like a soap, the similarities end there.  The Wonderbar will actually bring your skin back in perfect balance and make oily skin less oily and dry skin less dry.  Resulting in healthy, glowing, radiant skin!

No more throwing money away on costly facials….

throwing $

The Wonderbar cleans, exfoliates and nourishes to promote clear, well-hydrated skin, much like a facial.  A facial is the second most popular spa service after the massage.  It is sometimes called “deep-cleansing” or “deep-pore cleansing” because of extractions.  It can be quite costly, especially as a monthly or weekly expense.

The Wonderbar does all of this for your skin every time you use it!  And all for just around a dollar a day……you can’t beat that.

“After using the Wonderbar, I have not needed to exfoliate.  After a good lather and rinse, my skin is soft and smooth, even though there is nothing abrasive in it.  It is super mild.  I have creamy soft baby skin.  I’m not kidding.  And my husband won’t need to hear me nag about getting facials anymore, in fact, it has gotten rid of his rosacea.”  The Beauty Snob, August 2009

Wonderbar can’t do wonders in the shower…on your skin at least!

Monday, September 7th, 2009

Now on your hair as a shampoo, well that’s a different story and a different blog post.  We are talking skin here…and this is what we have heard several times: “I tried it a few times in the shower and…”  or “My Wonderbar melted in the shower and I didn’t have the chance to try it again…” or “I used the Wonderbar everyday and it didn’t do a thing!”.  This last statement always makes us suspect the shower!

Well, if you are using your bar in the shower like a facial or body soap, then it really won’t do much, but clean your skin.  The Wonderbar is intended to be lathered on the skin and then allowed to dry, like a treatment.   This is why the instructions say ‘let sit for 3 to 5 minutes before rinsing’.  If not allowed to dry, then it can’t do its job.  The best way to use the bar is to lather it all over your face, neck and/or other body parts and let it sit to dry…before you get into the shower.  Then shower and rinse.  Be sure to apply in the evening as well!  You can leave it on your body through the night, but most people rinse their face (although we do have the occasional addict, who will leave it on 24/7!).

So keep it by your sink.  You will find that it lasts MUCH longer this way too.  And remember, the Wonderbar works very well as a shampoo in the shower, but as a scalp treatment, the above will apply.  Leave it to dry before rinsing!

My husband loves the Wonderbar and now I have to share.

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

As it turns out, now that I have finally found a skin care routine I can stick with, I have to share it :) .   I suggested to my husband that he try the Wonderbar to minimize his pores…..and that worked really well.  Then he started using it as an aftershave and now he doesn’t even get razor burn.  And his soft skin…who knew?

Hide your Wonderbars people!  Now you know what to get the man who has everything, or at least the man you thought had everything…

How do I store the Wonderbar?

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

QUESTION: How do you suggest it be stored? On a soap tray? In a container? Left out in the open?

ANSWER: Simply store it on a soap dish with drain holes or slots.   Try waving it in the air for a second to dry it faster before you set it down.  It dries very quickly, anyway, but still can get a little stuck if you set it down really wet or covered in suds.  For traveling, you can use a little mesh bag or just put it right into your dop kit dry…remember too that with anti-bacterial properties, you don’t need to worry that bacteria will grow on the bar in the open air.
