This is a testimonial for the ages…..my Nana bought a Wonderbar right when I first started selling them. NOT because she thought it would work, but for the same reason you buy girl scout cookies from your niece, she did it to support my efforts. She told me at the time that she just loved it and she was so proud of me for trying to sell it.
Secretly, she thought it was some sort of scammy-type thing…..turns out, she was wrong. Lots of people were wrong, by the way! Thank God! Also, she’s never been particularly interested in “skincare”, so asking her to wash her face twice a day was not really in the cards.
Flash forward a few months and my Nana is sitting in her den watching television. She reached up to touch her face and could hardly believe what she was feeling! Her 87 year old skin was SOFT. “Could this be?”, she said. Unfortunately, Nana got sick and landed in the hospital for several days. It sort of sidetracked things for her and she wasn’t faithful about using the bar. I sent her another bar for Mother’s day, but she was back to doubtful.
A few months later at the end of a visit, we sat at the kitchen table waiting for her friend, Syd Howard, to pick her up for the airport (he was one hour late, by the way, while Nana was four hours early, just so you know). We had a good long talk and had a chance to discuss the bar. She admitted that she wasn’t really using it so much, so I gave her my full pitch again. What could she do at that point, but ask if she could take a four-in-one home with her? She began to faithfully use it every day.
At first she thought it was her hair, but then she realized she hated her hair, so yes, it MUST be her skin. Something was going on and don’t think for a second that it escaped Auntie Florence when she came over for a visit one day. Auntie Florence, who never gives compliments, asked my Nana straight away what she was doing to make her skin glow so much! She even added that Nana’s skin had never looked better. Nana, never one to miss an opportunity to brag about her grandchildren, answered, “My Tiffy is selling this Wonderbar!” Florence, who turned 91 this year, was all over it. On her first ill-fated attempt, she accidentally reached for the wrong bar and ended up sleeping with regular soap all over her face, but in fairness to Florence, the lighting in the bathroom probably wasn’t that great. Eventually, though, she reached for the right bar and has been happy ever since.
In conclusion, I would like to directly quote my Nana sharing her favorite Wonderbar story to date:
“I walked in to my bridge club gathering, and yes, I did have on a darling new top, but I mean, I started to say hello, and one at a time they started to say ”You look so fabulous, what have you done?” They said they had never seen me look so good and son of a gun, when I looked in the mirror, I couldn’t even recall looking that good, I was almost embarrassed! And you know, Tiffy, I’m not used to getting compliments anymore, you just don’t get them at 87, but the very next morning one of the ladies called JUST to tell me how beautiful I looked, and I have to agree that it’s my skin, because it sure isn’t my body!”
So that’s the story of Nana and the Wonderbar. It goes to show that if you give the bar a chance, it’ll work on whatever skin you have. And you might even get a compliment or two out of the deal…
