My NANA! At 87, she’s still got it…..and it’s no Wonder!

Nana

This is a testimonial for the ages…..my Nana bought a Wonderbar right when I first started selling them.  NOT because she thought it would work, but for the same reason you buy girl scout cookies from your niece, she did it to support my efforts.  She told me at the time that she just loved it and she was so proud of me for trying to sell it.  :)   Secretly, she thought it was some sort of scammy-type thing…..turns out, she was wrong. Lots of people were wrong, by the way!  Thank God!  Also, she’s never been particularly interested in “skincare”, so asking her to wash her face twice a day was not really in the cards.

Flash forward a few months and my Nana is sitting in her den watching television.  She reached up to touch her face and could hardly believe what she was feeling!  Her 87 year old skin was SOFT.  “Could this be?”, she said.  Unfortunately, Nana got sick and landed in the hospital for several days.  It sort of sidetracked things for her and she wasn’t faithful about using the bar.  I sent her another bar for Mother’s day, but she was back to doubtful.

A few months later at the end of a visit, we sat at the kitchen table waiting for her friend, Syd Howard, to pick her up for the airport (he was one hour late, by the way, while Nana was four hours early, just so you know).   We had a good long talk and had a chance to discuss the bar.  She admitted that she wasn’t really using it so much, so I gave her my full pitch again.  What could she do at that point, but ask if she could take a four-in-one home with her?  She began to faithfully use it every day.

At first she thought it was her hair, but then she realized she hated her hair, so yes, it MUST be her skin.  Something was going on and don’t think for a second that it escaped Auntie Florence when she came over for a visit one day.  Auntie Florence, who never gives compliments, asked my Nana straight away what she was doing to make her skin glow so much!  She even added that Nana’s skin had never looked better.    Nana, never one to miss an opportunity to brag about her grandchildren, answered, “My Tiffy is selling this Wonderbar!”  Florence, who turned 91 this year, was all over it.  On her first ill-fated attempt, she accidentally reached for the wrong bar and ended up sleeping with regular soap all over her face, but in fairness to Florence, the lighting in the bathroom probably wasn’t that great.  Eventually, though, she reached for the right bar and has been happy ever since.

In conclusion, I would like to directly quote my Nana sharing her favorite Wonderbar story to date:

“I walked in to my bridge club gathering, and yes, I did have on a darling new top, but I mean, I started to say hello, and one at a time they started to say ”You look so fabulous, what have you done?”   They said they had never seen me look so good and son of a gun, when I looked in the mirror, I couldn’t even recall looking that good, I was almost embarrassed!  And you know, Tiffy, I’m not used to getting compliments anymore, you just don’t get them at 87, but the very next morning one of the ladies called JUST to tell me how beautiful I looked, and I have to agree that it’s my skin, because it sure isn’t my body!”

So that’s the story of Nana and the Wonderbar.  It goes to show that if you give the bar a chance, it’ll work on whatever skin you have.  And you might even get a compliment or two out of the deal…

Need to address this Mineral Powder and Wonderbar thing….

mineral powder

I am getting a ton of flack about recommending against the use of mineral powder in conjunction with the Wonderbar, and that perhaps I should not be doing so without backing it up with scientific data.  Also, I have received complaints from a few clients who insist that I consider that it might not be ALL mineral powders; only some.  I have to tell you, I’m no scientist, but I have seen this combination not work out so well, and even if it has only been a handful of times and doesn’t apply to every situation, I still feel obligated to disclose it. Trust me, using the two products together can be…..NO FUN.  I am talking about the breakouts that can occur.  Maybe it is not ALL mineral powders that cause this reaction when used with the bar, maybe only a few that have certain ingredients….or maybe mineral powders do clog your pores, maybe, just maybe, the wonderbar tries to pull the toxins out while the powder filling in your pores traps them in, resulting in cystic acne and infections just beneath the surface of your skin.  And maybe some people are more sensitive than others….or maybe the bismuth oxychloride is causing it.  WhatEVER it is, I’m going to warn you that it’s something you should watch for so you don’t think it’s some crazy allergic reaction.  If I see something that concerns me, you’re hearing about it whether I have data to back it up or not.  And if I’m wrong about something, I’ll correct myself……there is likely a lesson in there that we can all benefit from anyway.

SOOO, instead of saying “will cause”, I’m going to change the wording on our instructional handout to: “Please be aware that SOME types of “mineral” powders, when used in conjunction with the Wonderbar, CAN cause severe breakouts, which will impede the healing process.”  (incidentally, the Wonderbar/mineral powder combo almost landed my famously dramatic sister-in-law in a wheelchair from the weight of the cyst that formed on her cheek, but that’s a story I’ll let her tell you….perhaps I’ll create a guest blogger spot?!?)  OK.  I hope everyone feels better now.  Please make a note of the correction and let’s move forward…

Now, if you feel like you want to ignore everything I just said and decide for yourself, then keep reading…..here is a special report by Paula Begoun and Bryan Barron, two well-known experts in the skincare and cosmetics field.  Keeping in mind exactly how the Wonderbar works and potential ways the two could work against each other, please consider what will be best for you.  If you have been experiencing breakouts outside of the normal “adjustment period” range, read the report carefully and check to see if your makeup contains any of the ingredients mentioned.  Also, if you’re still feeling protective of your mineral powder, you can take it up with Paula and Bryan!  Be careful, though…they hang with the Mighty Opes. (When she’s not hanging with me, of course ;) )

Headed to Colorado in our Toyota, not sure how safe I feel!

ode going to colorado

Well, well, well….here we are again.  I can’t believe it’s already Spring Break and time to pile the kids and dog and husband and extra Wonderbars in the car and head to Colorado.  I have to have extras because they sell wherever I go- you know I started selling them out of my car?  LITERALLY.  I’ll have to tell you that story another day though….

Anyway, I was feeling pretty excited until my Mom reminded me that we are driving in a “runaway” Toyota.  I guess we need to find out what to do if the gas pedal sticks.  If anyone has advice on that, please let me know before 5:00 tomorrow morning.  My husband, whom I’ll be referring to as “Julie, the cruise director” for the next  eight days, says not to worry, “everything is going to be alright…..until it’s not”.  Ok, that makes me feel SOOOO much better.  Thanks for that, Julie.  He earned the nickname ”Julie” last year when my sister and I noticed his anxiety level rising every time we didn’t have 52 activities planned for the day.  He goes crazy!  That is why I am only bringing my pajamas…..it will simply drive him nuts.    Okay, I probably need to tweak my attitude- we haven’t even gotten in the car yet.  This is also the first year we have had a dog.  He is coming with us, of course.  Julie is in love with him!  Do you have this whole hilarious picture in your head yet?

In a related story, things at WonderbarUSA are going great and seem to get more exciting by the day.  SO many exciting things brewing, but I can’t tell you about any of them!  They have to happen first.  That is really hard for me, I mean, I was telling people that I was pregnant when I had been that way for like a minute.   Actually, I can tell you one thing.  Someone’s getting a new website!  It is really beautiful and packed with even MORE info than before…..updated press, testimonials and a new FAQ page.  Don’t get me wrong, I LIKE answering 2000 emails a day that are all asking the same question!  ;)   No, really, I think the new FAQ page should answer some of your questions and make it easier for all of us.

That’s it, folks!  If you are traveling for Spring Break, be safe and don’t forget your Wonderbars……if you do, I guess I can overnight one to you….wherever you are.  But remember, Julie gets cranky if I spend too much time at the post office during our vacation!

A pair of great products that go well with WonderBar!

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

ce ferulicI used to use this product a few years ago when I was trying to ”young” myself down before my 20 year reunion!  In fact, I had a whole slew of products I was putting all over myself…..I liked it at the time, but it felt distinctly like it was sitting on the surface of my skin.  Flash forward a few years and now I’m using the Wonderbar.  A beauty editor, who I had gotten to know over time through emails, asked me if she could use her favorite product, CE Ferulic, with the bar.  I said “no”, don’t use anything with the Wonderbar except for a plain moisturizer.  Always learning…….

I decided to try it myself, in the hopes that I could tell her further into her process that “YES!”, she could use her favorite product afterall.  Well, I was adjusted to the Wonderbar at that point, to say the least, so I bought some CE Ferulic.  The first thing I noticed was that my skin soaked it up like nobody’s business.  It felt like a different product to me! :)   Now, after using for some time (in between removing the Wonderbar and applying my moisturizer (I’ll get to that next)), I love it.  Just adds a little extra oomph to my already glow-y skin.  And from what I understand, it adds extra sun-protection as well.  Gotta love that.  So, this is my official product recommendation.  Go get some CE Ferulic, it’s definitely good stuff.

kiehls

Now on to the moisturizers- certainly a lot of great ones out there.  I bet I’ve only skimmed the surface, but for the time being, I’m not looking any further.  Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream is working very well for me.  It is not too greasy and it keeps me very hydrated, even during the brutal Winters we have here in Houston.  ;)   So, add this product to your list of moisturizers that work very well with the bar and do not break you out…

That’s all!  I am going now to host a baby sip-n-see for my adorable friend Adrienne and her newly adopted baby boy, Braden Rivers.  He is beautiful and looks just like his new family!!!  God works in mysterious ways! :)   I’ve been cooking Italian chicken salad for two days for 50 people- I’m up to my ears in toasted almonds and lettuce leaves and just found out only 25 people are coming!  Oh, well, guess we’ll be eating chicken salad for a few days.  Please give me feedback on any products you have found that work well with the bar!  Love to hear your thoughts!!

Will the real Wonderbar please stand up?

Buffet_Lunch

I guess it’s good news when other companies out there begin using the words “wonder” and “bar” in their advertising and marketing campaigns more and more…..different combinations like Bar-wonder, Wonder-bar, Wonder Bar, Bar of Wonder.  When we first started, you could google the word “wonderbar” and the only thing that came up was a bar in Asbury Park.  It’s been pretty exciting to watch from my viewpoint, actually, because it means we at WonderbarUSA are making an impact and leaving a strong impression in the market place.    That leads to name recognition, which leads to stronger sales.  We are seeing all of that, so we are very grateful.  :)  These days, my inbox is FULL of questions regarding Eumora and Cor Silver, so I thought I would just briefly respond here.

Eumora is not the same as the Wonderbar, as seen on our website, wonderbarusa.com.  The two bars are made by the same manufacturer.   The Wonderbar is an improved and more effective version of Eumora.  The ingredients are the same, but the composition is different.  The distributors of Eumora are prohibited from selling the bar here in the United States, as we are prohibited from selling the Wonderbar in Malaysia or Singapore.  There, I said it and I mean it with all due respect.

Secondly, people want to know about Cor Silver and why and how the Wonderbar is better or different.  They are both “bars”, hence the curiousity, but I think the similarities end there.   As far as I can tell, people love Cor Silver and while  it seems like a good product, I have never tried it myself and cannot speak from an educated standpoint on its effectiveness.  What I can say is that it does not contain the Chlore’nahre, which is the microalgae component that “heals” your skin.  Also, the advertised pH level of the Cor Silver bar is 7.2.   The pH level of the Wonderbar, as you’ve heard me say here before, is around 5.65.  Just to be clear (no pun intended), normal skin surface pH is between 4 and 6.5 in healthy people. ;)   Lastly, the Cor Silver bar does not contain the Heilmoor Clay that detoxifies the skin.  As you can see, the three things that really make our bar wondrous, as they say, cannot be found in Cor Silver.  The two bars are different animals altogether.

SO, as my favorite blogger, Lainey, likes to say…..this is like a big buffet with lots of choices and YOU get to choose what you want.  WE just get to put it in front of you and hopefully……..you’ll make the right choice!

julib_styleawards_nominee_large

Sorry, I haven’t posted in a while!  Someone actually noticed and emailed me. :) (I’m sure my mother put her up to it.)  Anyway, things are getting a little busy around here (in a great way!) and it’s getting harder to keep up.  I’m not complaining, though…..I’m very happy to be occupied with something as exciting as this.  Seriously, I am answering emails from my bed at 6:15 am because I am so excited to see what the day brings and who has emailed……How many are we going to sell today?  Which reviews are going to come out? What great news the day will bring???  It’s been thrilling to watch it grow and I never had a doubt it would! :)  I got an email recently from the buyers of a very exciting store in New York (remember that day I schlepped all over NY dropping off samples to anyone who would let me in the door? You are supposed to have appointments for these things, I guess), well they took it home and tried it and loved it!  Soooooo, hopefully, soon we will be taking orders from a few of these retailers we have been talking to.  Send good vibes please…

Speaking of good vibes, the Wonderbar has been selected as a Finalist for the Reader’s Choice Awards on JuliB, in the category,Best in Moisturizers & Cleansers 2010″….can you believe it??  I mean, you submit your own application to be a nominee, but there are HUNDREDS of nominees!  We are very honored over here to be named as a finalist and I hope you all will rally and VOTE for us!  We have some good competition, but still nothing quite like the Wonderbar.  Just my opinion…..hopefully shared by a few thousand others.

You will need to register with julib.com in order to vote, so please do so. There is no cost to register, of course.  julib.com is a free lifestyle and luxury e-mail publication that goes out to over 750,000 people.  AND you’ll have until midnight on Friday, April 16th to vote !

Thanks everyone!!

p.s. Keep the questions and calls coming!  I’m learning a ton through all of the correspondence and conversations! :)
